The Rattlesnake National Recreation Area is a popular destination for area residents, but access was limited to the east side of Rattlesnake Creek. Friends of Missoula Parks and the City of Missoula wanted to install a bridge that was environmentally friendly, used sustainable design and fit into its surroundings. The new award winning 90-foot cable suspension bridge was open to the public on April 21, 2006.

Not only does this bridge provide a crucial link between the Rattlesnake and the city’s trail system, it also serves as a great example of implementing sustainable and recycled materials.

The bridge was funded with a US Forest Service Small Diameter Timber Grant, a Recreational Trails Program - Fish, Wildlife and Parks Grant and private donations.
