Bevis Ice Tractor at Pineview Park

Every winter since 1975, volunteers have created and maintained a public ice skating pond in Missoula's Rattlesnake neighborhood.

In 2022, in recognition of the countless hours Bill Bevis spent maintaining the ice, the ice skating pond was named the "Bill Bevis Ice Rink" by the City of Missoula.  Volunteers use a small tractor with a snowblower, blade, and power broom to clear the ice each night and then apply water to freeze overnight, creating a smooth skating surface each morning.

Weather permitting, the ice is open to the public until 9:00 pm Mon-Thurs, and until 10:00 pm Fri-Sun and holidays. The tractor that ice rink volunteers use to maintain the rink, purchased in 1993, has been diagnosed with impending engine failure at any moment by tractor mechanics. It will cost $15,000 to replace the tractor. FMP is now accepting donations to replace the tractor to allow volunteers to continue to provide this wonderful community amenity.
